ON THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
ON THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO
The path along the Pre-Pyrenees offers an insight into the rich heritage of the Pyrenees as it crosses spectacular mountain landscapes extending from Carcassonne to St-Jean-Pied-de-Port and passing through Lourdes on the way.
This route, which is the furthest south along the Way of Saint James, makes its way through the first ripples of the Pyrenees. While not mentioned in the Guide for the Traveller (1140), the Piedmont route was certainly used by pilgrims, who spread information about the route via word of mouth.
The route passes in front of the Pic du Jer station, where there is a stopover for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago.
